Excuses for Absences

Just a reminder about the District attendance policies. All excuses for absences must be received within three school days of the absence. The District policy requires that we have medical documentation to excuse an absence medically. The policy does allow for five (5) parent excuses per semester for illness. This is for when a student does not feel well but is not sick enough to go to the doctor. A parent needs to contact the school either by phone (479.360.7500) or through the attendance email (gjhsattendanceclerk@bentonvillek12.org). After the five (5) parent notes have been used, absences can only be excused with an official medical excuse.

Medical excuses can also be sent to the email. For the medical excuse, just take a picture of the excuse and attach it to the email.

Please be aware that the District policy does not allow us to excuse days for travel/vacation, even with a parent contact.

The policy is also specific about excuses for bereavement. We can excuse days, with documentation such as an obituary or funeral program, for the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent, great-grandparent, or relative who lives in the home.
