Library Check-Outs and Lost Items

The library will start its inventory process shortly after our return from Spring Break beginning with required English class novels like The Outsiders and The Giver. Please help us by renewing any items that are overdue or by returning any items that have been marked as "lost" under your account. If you have 2 or more items that are considered "lost," your library account will be frozen and you will not be able to check out anything else until those items are returned undamaged or paid for. Please check your email for notices from the library about missing items, especially as we get closer to the end of the school year.

NASA Hunch

NASA Hunch Student Video Challenge The NASA HUNCH program is excited to announce the 2023-24 student video challenge, which offers students the opportunity to showcase the application of CTE and project-based learning programs in high demand career fields on Earth as well as in space. This year's theme: "Why Go to the Moon?" The contest is open to students of all ages, including elementary, middle-school, high-school and postsecondary students in any school or who is homeschooled. Submit a two-minute video by April 1. Learn more.

Student ID Cost

Beginning on Monday, August 28, students will be charged for missing ID badges. If a student loses their badge, the replacement cost is $5.00. This will be charged in the student's MyPaymentPlus account. Parents are responsible for getting this paid in a timely manner.

If students do not have their ID badges by the start of class each day, they will have to get a temporary badge. Three instances of this will result in a meeting with an administrator and a lunch detention.

Checking Out Students

In order to check out a student, parent or emergency contact must come up to the building and ring the bell. Please be sure to have ID available just in case it is needed. Persons not on the contact list will not be allowed in the building and are not able to check out a student. If someone needs to be added to the contact list, go to the Etrieve account on the Bentonville Schools website. This is where residency verification paperwork is uploaded every year. Go to Emergency Contacts and add in the contact information. This information rolls into the system overnight, so please be sure to do this in a timely fashion. The information will take 1-2 days to become active.

Lunch Balances and Forms

You can click here to access the Meal Magic Family Portal, where you can check lunch balances, add money to a lunch account, and apply for free/reduced lunch.

Excuses for Absences

Just a reminder about the District attendance policies. All excuses for absences must be received within three school days of the absence. The District policy requires that we have medical documentation to excuse an absence medically. The policy does allow for five (5) parent excuses per semester for illness. This is for when a student does not feel well but is not sick enough to go to the doctor. A parent needs to contact the school either by phone (479.360.7500) or through the attendance email (gjhsattendanceclerk@bentonvillek12.org). After the five (5) parent notes have been used, absences can only be excused with an official medical excuse.

Medical excuses can also be sent to the email. For the medical excuse, just take a picture of the excuse and attach it to the email.

Please be aware that the District policy does not allow us to excuse days for travel/vacation, even with a parent contact.

The policy is also specific about excuses for bereavement. We can excuse days, with documentation such as an obituary or funeral program, for the death of a parent, sibling, grandparent, great-grandparent, or relative who lives in the home.
