Announcements: |
| The Special Services department of Bentonville Public Schools has created an Advisory Committee composed of parents and school staff to involve all stakeholders in developing programs to best meet the needs of identified students. Our new website is the first step in providing our parents and the community with a place to get up-to-date information concerning the special services program. |
|
Mission:
All children have the ability to learn, but some face different challenges. Special services identifies and accommodates for those students who need assistance to be successful in the standard classroom. The Special Services Department utilizes a team approach to provide for the individual needs of identified students. BPS special services provides a variety of services for identified students: early childhood education, academic support services, speech language services, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and behavioral support.
Special education services are specifically designed instruction intended for students with identified disabilities from age 3 to age 21. To be eligible for special education services a student must be referred, offered interventions for each area of weakness with documented response of interventions on learning, evaluated, and identified as a student with a disability (13 categories). If you believe your child needs additional support services, the primary point of contact should be your school's designee or principal.
Special Education in the Bentonville School District means:
- Providing each identified student with a free and appropriate public education,
- Educating students in the least restrictive environment,
- Involving parents in all phases of the Special Education process from the beginning with thereferral process and annually in the review and development of the Individual Education Plan,
- Supporting students with a disability with supplementary aids and services in their regular education or special education classroom,
- Informing the community and patrons of special education services for students who may have special needs.
Additional Information:
If you are moving in the Bentonville School District from another district within the state or from out of state, it would greatly assist us in determining appropriate programming and placement for your child if the following were provided (in order of priority) before or at the time of enrollment:
- Individual Education Plan (IEP)
- Evaluations (Psychological, Educational, Emotional, Medical)
- Due Process Paperwork, including
- Annual Review
- Referral, Evaluation, Separate Program Conference Paperwork
- Other Data Related to Education (if appropriate for age and disability)
- Health care plan
- Behavior plan
- Transition plan
