• BHS Literary Magazine Club
Rising Junior and Senior students interested in joining the staff of BHS's literary magazine for next year should attend the informational meeting on Thursday, February 9th, at 11:00 in room 312 or should pick up an application beforehand from Mr. Stripling in room 312. Students who are selected will form a seminar class for the 2012-2013 school year.
HOSA students who are traveling to state competition should have all paperwork and $100 turned in to Ms. McCain no later than February 9, 2012. Alternate students should turn in paperwork as well in case a spot opens up for them to participate. See Ms. McCain in room 242 for more information.
The Interact Club is once again hosting the Books2Africa book drive. We will be accepting donations for any type of book--kindergarten through high school books in gently used condition--to send to schools in Africa.
The book drive will run from Monday, February, 6th through Friday, February 10th.
All donations can be placed in the collection boxes in the North and South libraries.
The BHS Community Scholarship Booklet will be distributed to seniors on Tuesday, February 7th, during seminar. If you are unable to attend the assembly, please contact Ms. Hoffman in the South Counseling Office to obtain your copy.
There will be a GEARS meeting Tuesday, Feb. 7th, in the Main Gym lobby. See you there.
The next meeting for the Student Library Advisory Board will be on Tuesday, February 7th, in the South Library. It will begin immediately following SSR. Attention members of the Arkansas Children's Hospital Club who have paid dues! Check your school email account to vote for officers. Voting ends at 5:00 pm on Tuesday, February 14.
Students are reminded that cell phones/IPODs use during seminar can only be used by honors seminar students in the north or south commons areas. These devices are not to be used in the hallways or other locations during seminar periods.
The Regional ACTM Math contest will be held on Saturday, March 3rd, in Fayetteville at the U of A. Tests offered are Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry, Pre-Cal/Trig, Calculus, and Statistics. You must be enrolled in the course to take the test. The cost is $2 due Feb. 15 to either your math teacher or Mrs. J. Jones room 240. Practice tests are available. See Mrs. Jones.
Students who signed up for the AMC 10 and AMC 12 math contests need to report to room 240 on Tuesday after checking in with your seminar teacher. The test takes 75 minutes. If you need a note see Mrs. J. Jones or have your teacher e-mail me. We have a few extra tests if you would like to take the test, but did not sign up. See Mrs. Jones.
BHS Cobblestone will meet Tuesday the 7th during seminar in room 306 to further discuss our 30 Days for Change campaign!
Sheldon Tucker, a Bentonville High School Graduate, has been with Bring It On the Musical since the original workshop in 2010. Before joining the show he was cheering at Hawaii Pacific University where he competed to win the team’s 7th and 8th consecutive NCA National Titles. He grew up performing at the Rogers Little Theater with roles in Peter Pan, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dream Coat, Footloose and Oklahoma, to name a few, and grew up singing under the direction of SoNA Choir Director Terry Hicks. Bring It On the Musical will be at the Walton Arts Center Feb. 7 - 12. Tickets are available at waltonartscenter.org.
Whether you consider yourself an athlete or not , there are opportunities on the intramurals board for students who want to be involved in making things happen. We are looking for people who can be creative, organized, dependable, & want to have fun. With nearly 4,000 students to plan for, there is a lot to be done. You will be part of organizing flag football, dodgeball, basketball, volleyball leagues, & tournaments for the student body. The intramural board will be a service credit for the 2012-2013 school year. Please see Mr. Calva in room 121 if you are interested.

If you are planning on attending the District 1 FCCLA Spring Leadership Meeting in Greenwood, February 15th, please varify with Dr. Weiss in room 1501 by February 7. This is the last day to register.

ACT PREP WORKSHOP
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH FROM 4:30– 6:00 PM
A free ACT Prep Workshop presented in partnership with the University of Arkansas’ College Access Initiative. Content includes test strategies and an overview of BPL’s Learning Express Library. We will be offering the ASVAB test on February 7 & 9 (2-day test) from 10:45-12:30 in the Main Gym. It is FREE. The ASVAB test provides you with career exploration scores which can help you determine your readiness for further education and training in different career areas. You, your counselor, and Military Services receive a copy of your scores.

Club Spotlight - Skills USA
Purpose: Part of a national organization for students interested in a broad range of careers involving technology, computers, robotics, cosmetology, automobiles, engineering, and electronics. (Dues: $18.00 - includes National and State fees. Students must be enrolled in a vocational or industrial class; must compete in BEST robotics in the fall and in Skills USA state skills competitions in the spring; Community service with Habitat for Humanity required.)
